Shoreline · January 2026
Retired and wanted our Shoreline ranch updated for aging in place. Moen Home Care grab bars that look stylish, zero-threshold curbless shower with bench, comfort-height toilet, lever-handle faucets. Anti-slip tile on shower floor. Everything ADA-compliant but not clinical. Thoughtful design.

After knee surgery, we needed modifications. Widened bathroom doorway to 36 inches, curbless shower with fold-down teak bench, continuous grab bars, hand-held showerhead on slide bar alongside rain head. Lever door handles throughout master suite. Safety and aesthetics not mutually exclusive.

I am 74 and plan to stay in my Wallingford home. They lowered a counter section to seated height, installed pull-out shelves in every lower cabinet, lever-handle faucets, task lighting under uppers, D-shaped cabinet pulls easy to grip with arthritic hands. Small changes, massive difference.

Our son uses a wheelchair. Demolished the hall bath and rebuilt with roll-in shower, fold-down seat, adjustable-height hand shower, wall-mounted sink at wheelchair height, comfort-height toilet with grab bars on both sides. Tile floor carefully graded to linear drain. Outstanding expertise and empathy.

Simpler project: grab bars in both bathrooms, non-slip floor treatment, lever-handle faucets, comfort-height toilet, motion-activated hallway night light. Quick 3-day project. Four stars because first grab bars were chrome instead of our specified brushed nickel, but swapped next day.

Comprehensive project: curbless shower with bench, grab bars in guest bath, non-slip flooring in both bathrooms, lever handles on all doors, small ramp at garage entry, rocker light switches. The crew understood maintaining independence requires attention to dozens of small details.

After a fall in the shower, I knew it was time. Converted tub/shower combo to walk-in with low threshold, textured anti-slip floor tile, grab bars at entry and inside, built-in seat. Shower controls reachable from the seat. Handheld wand on 60-inch hose. I feel so much safer now.

We are in our early 60s, doing this proactively. Reinforced bathroom walls with blocking so grab bars can be added anywhere later without renovation. Curbless shower entry, comfort-height toilet, lever faucets, widened door to 34 inches. Make the investment while it is still a choice, not an emergency.

Kitchen: pull-out shelves, lowered microwave, lever faucet, under-cabinet lighting. Bathroom: curbless shower, fold-down teak bench, grab bars, raised toilet, lighted mirror. Light switches moved to 42 inches for seated reach. Every modification chosen with purpose. I plan to live here 20 more years.

Brand new ADA bathroom converting an underused office near master bedroom. Roll-in shower, wall-hung sink, comfort-height toilet, grab bars throughout. Turning radius meets wheelchair clearance. Worked with our occupational therapist for exact grab bar heights and toilet position. Life-changing.
